SATELLITE MUSEUM

INTERIOR DESIGN

SPRING 2019

THE SATELLITE MUSEUM RE-IMAGINES THE BROOKLYN MUSEUMS TWENTY-THREE AMERICAN PERIOD ROOMS RANGING IN DATE FROM THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY TO THE TWENTIETH CENTURY.

Since the late 19th century, period rooms have been used as a method of communicating the past in public museums. However, in recent years many museums have questioned the effectiveness of the period room display and interpretation method. A recent conference at the Bowes museum in England discussed how period rooms are an outdated display method. This satellite museum is a response to this recent phenomenon.
